Carol L. Myers - Art Quilts

After 24 years as a nurse, and raising 4 children (well, almost) I am in the enviable position of being able to return full time to the studio and concentrate on art. My degree major was printmaking, but I have enlarged my focus to include fiber art and mixed media. I am the head of the Fiber Department at the Indianapolis Art Center, as well as the Regional Representative for IN-OH for the Studio Art Quilt Associates.
Much of my work begins in a glance, a chance arrangement of form or color or light that I see out of the corner of my eye. Or perhaps it is the light shining through the blinds as I wake up on a sunny morning, or the reflection on glass, or the glimpse of a bird in flight as I drive daily to the studio. This glimpse, in the rendering into form, becomes significant, or at least understandable. These glimpses form my personal constellation of image and meaning, my personal archetypes. Whether representational or abstract, my work spins off these chance encounters with the Now and and becomes richer over time and repetition. My life seems to depend on following these fleeting sightings of inspiration. In that I am blessed, obsessed, compelled.
I am honored and excited that my silk scarf is part of the Fiberart For A Cause Invitational Reverse Auction this year. Only nine artists are invited to participate each year and 100% of the money raised by the Reverse Auction is donated to the
American Cancer Society.
The online Reverse Auction opens with a MUST BUY NOW option on Monday, May 15 with the regular reverse Auction opening on Tuesday, May 16. All the details are here:

Fiberart For A Cause has already raised $50,000 for the American Cancer Society and I have donated my artwork to this Reverse Auction in memory of my Father, Wm. Kyle Upton, to show my support for the American Cancer Society.
More of my artwork can be seen on blog at www.artflights.blogspot.com. Be sure to bookmark this site and return, as my new site is in the process of being built.
